Sleep Medicines Long Term Danger When the body feels tired, we certainly hope straight to bed. Unfortunately, not everyone can just sleep easy. For them, the drug seemed comparable to bed rest at night. However, be aware that studies have linked sleep dangers of drug consumption in the long term.

Dr. Genevieve Belleville Research from Canada shows, those who are accustomed to sleeping pills drank three or more tablets have the risk of death more quickly than people who do not take medication to sleep. Another impact of the use of sleeping pills are chronic health problems, such as addiction to alcohol or cigarettes, and possible causes of depression.

Side effects of sleeping pills was attracted the attention of researchers because many sleeping pills which are sold freely. In the UK, an estimated 10 million sleeping pills are prescribed every year. Sleeping pills that can be sold freely usually contain antihistamines are high, as they are commonly prescribed by doctors, such as Valium.

This case was deemed crucial. Therefore, the researchers did not distinguish between the weight scale users of sleeping pills and those who occasionally use them. "Drugs are not candy and can take them in danger," said Belleville.

Based on research over 12 years and analyze more than 12,000 data in Canada, Dr. Belleville stating that the death rate significantly higher for users as well as sleeping pills and those who consume drugs to reduce anxiety.

After calculating the concentration of alcohol and tobacco on physical health, physical activity, and depression, dr Belleville found that existing sleeping pills can increase the 36 percent risk of death. "They are also more susceptible to any kind of diseases originating from parasites to cancer," said Dr. Belleville.

Other findings from this sleep medication side effects also can not be taken lightly. "Sedative and anti-anxiety effect on reaction times and coordination so that makes a person more easily falls and accidents," he said.

For those who have problems with the heart, Belleville found that sleeping pills can suppress the respiratory system which will worsen the breathing problems during sleep. "These drugs also act on the central nervous system that affects the assessment and mood. There is danger of these drugs increase suicide risk," he said.

He said that cognitive behavioral therapy has shown good results in treating insomnia and anxiety. Hence, the doctor can discuss these systemic therapy as an option to their patients. "Combining pharmacological approaches in the short term psychological treatment is a promising strategy to reduce anxiety and promote sleep," said Dr. Belleville.

Nevertheless, the study received criticism. Professor Jim Horne of Loughborough University said the research still needs to be studied further. "It is also questionable reaction to what happens when these people do not use sleeping pills," he said.

The study, published in the Journal of Psychiatry, Canada, was obtained from the National Health Survey of Canada. Eligible participants include people aged 18 to 102 years and were surveyed every two years between 1994 and 2007.
